Despite the allegory often attributed to the idiom Felix Bacolor chose for his first exhibition of the year 2012, Swan Song is not to be his ‘final gesture.’ However, in making a citation to this metaphor, Felix moves around what it stands for and constructs an approximation of his eschatological posture—as if excavating a widely circulated secret he reckons with, in mock commentary, the so-predicated apocalypse that has been stalking mankind.
This ordinary experience of obsessing and speculating in fluff what the year 2012 could mean is filtered in a visual language that considers Doomsday and Last Judgment simultaneous to transhumanism and technological singularity. Felix orchestrates imagery from the field of science and technology anchored close to ominous tokens of the End, the Last, the Swan Song into yet another playful and explorative project that alludes to ephemerality and the essential quest for the sublime in everyday experience.
