My investigation revolves around the concept of limits, both of experience as well as of self. Both act as starting points in the attempt to go beyond common human perception. My practice seeks to address that position between the boundaries of the visible and the invisible; I am interested in the anxieties, physicalities, and metaphysicalities that transpire within the dichotomies of emotion and reason, the sacred and the profane, spirituality and sensuality.
The materiality of the immaterial, depth, and transcendence create the platform on which my enquiry lies and, at the same time, are the very ideas I question. Contradiction and conflict are recurring elements in my work. I am interested in creating a certain tension: a state of unease and agitation between holding back and letting go, of revealing and concealment—aspects that happen to be one of the driving forces of my interrogation.
My works and processes explore the idea of objecthood and object-making, in which material and the ritual of making are signifiers that attempt to verbalise the continuity and intimate relationships that take place between the works, as well as between myself and my practice. Material is substance and significance; process and making are involvements—and all play a part in the effort to reach that state of sensory and psychological experience within my practice.
