Artist Manny Migrino returns to Manila from New York to exhibit his newest installation, illuminating the darkness from clues followed and signals received out of the aether. Transforming himself as well as the air around him through cryptic yet meaningful transmissions, Migrino refuses to talk at length about the work in person, stating that to experience it in any other way than through viewing the work itself would diminish the work and prove to be fruitless in any case. The most that he would reveal about his process through spoken word is, indeed,that he is following some hints or whispers that keep leading him on to the next idea—the next piece, the next place—to what end has not been revealed to him yet. I won't give up the installation with details of materials and visuals, but perhaps when the audience sees the work for themselves, they can ascertain the meaning behind his work in which he himself is not able to discern. I will say this, however—I frequently get the sense from his work, much of which I have seen, that he is playing the part of the sly monk using zen proverbs that supposedly reveal everything by exposing nothing.

He has participated in Post Gallery’s Selecter FM Session and Radyo Itim FM, and his work was auctioned in support of the ABC No Rio 25th Anniversary Benefit auction.
